As a young lad attending Catholic elementary school in Chicago, I looked forward to January 6 after Christmas excitement subsided. We were going to have a day off from school to celebrate The Feast Day of the Three Kings, the Epiphany. Since those days, that is how I have thought of January 6, a special holiday, even if my employer didn’t give me the day off.

In a time long ago I had subscribed to the National Review for many years, later I canceled my subscription. The editor called to ask why I canceled. I told him National Review would decry a bill introduced by a Congressman or Senator based on the the personal life of the Congressman or Senator rather than the content of the prospective legislation. I smelled a whiff of that in your letter today.
